The ask

1. An immediate refund of the extra ₹4,465 that Agoda wrongfully deducted as a cancellation fee.

2. Agoda must implement a strict policy ensuring their cancellation charges never exceed the official penalty set by the airline.

3. Transparent breakdown of all OTA cancellation fees versus airline fees at the time of checkout.

What happened

I booked an Akasa Air ticket via Agoda but accidentally selected Navi Mumbai instead of Mumbai. When I tried to cancel the booking on Agoda, they showed a massive cancellation fee of ₹4,764 and a refund of just ₹1,571.

However, when I checked with Akasa Air directly, their official cancellation page and customer care confirmed the airline's actual cancellation charge is only ₹299, meaning the refund should have been ₹6,076. Because the booking was made through Agoda, they are pocketing an extra ₹4,465 for absolutely nothing. Charging 15 times the airline's actual cancellation fee is completely unethical. Booking platforms should not be allowed to loot customers by inventing arbitrary cancellation penalties that the airline itself does not levy.

"I recently faced the same. I had booked indigo flights through easemytrip. Indigo had cancelled the flights due to airspace tensions and offered me a full refund. But easemytrip took 10%, only to give it back in installments after several emails were sent to them for refund."
