Result (Sunday 11 October 2026): Liverpool 0-3 Man City
- The first half was goalless. Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch was sent off on 62 minutes for a second yellow card, after a foul on Jérémy Doku as City broke forward.
- City then scored three times in 13 minutes: Erling Haaland (65'), Jérémy Doku (68') and Rayan Cherki (78'), the last set up by Joško Gvardiol's flick.
- City had 65% of the ball. Alisson and Gianluigi Donnarumma both made important saves, and Haaland missed a one-on-one early in the second half.
- Table: City stay top with six wins from six (18 points). It is Liverpool's first league defeat of the season, and they are ninth on 9 points, nine behind City, in the standings after Sunday's games.
- It was City's first match since the verdict on the 115 charges. Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane said: "There have been lots of statements made over the last few weeks, but the team made a statement today."
Was Gravenberch's second yellow the turning point, or were City the better side anyway? Tell us below.

Before the match
The match
Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, 11 October 2026: 4:30 pm UK, 9:00 pm India, 11:30 am US Eastern. It's the first big Premier League game after the international break.
Form
- Man City: top of the table, five wins from five, three points clear of Arsenal. Manager Enzo Maresca's side beat Sunderland 5-3 before the break.
- Liverpool: sixth, unbeaten under new manager Andoni Iraola (2 wins, 3 draws), six points behind City. Liverpool are unbeaten in seven games across all competitions.
- Last season: City beat Liverpool in all three meetings, including a 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final, a 3-0 league win in Manchester and a late comeback win at Anfield.
Team news
- Man City: Phil Foden is suspended after his red card in the Manchester derby. Erling Haaland is being assessed after picking up a knock with Norway, and Antoine Semenyo and Nico O'Reilly are doubts.
- Liverpool: Alexander Isak (thigh) and Cody Gakpo (ankle) came back early from international duty and are doubts. Federico Chiesa is recovering from a back problem.
Off the pitch
City go into the game weeks after an independent commission found them guilty on almost all of the Premier League's 115 financial charges. The club is appealing, and punishment hasn't been decided. PetitionFox has a separate debate on what that punishment should be.
What the numbers say
Sportradar's pre-match model makes it almost a coin toss: about 38% City, 37% Liverpool and 26% a draw.
The case for Liverpool: home advantage at Anfield, still unbeaten under Iraola, and a City side without Foden and possibly Haaland.
The case for Man City: a perfect start, the best record in this fixture last season, and squad depth to cover absences.

How debates work
- Pick a side. One tap, and you can switch until it closes. Only the totals are public: your side shows only next to what you post.
- Make your case. Your argument counts for your side. To answer someone’s argument, reply under it.
- Respect++ the strongest arguments, on either side, even the one you didn’t pick: +5 rep for the writer. A reply under an argument gets a quick ++.
- Changed my mind — an argument for the other side convinced you? Tap it there: you switch sides, and its writer gets +10 rep.
- The verdict. When time’s up, the side more people picked wins (under 5 picks, there’s no result). The argument with the most Respect++ on each side is crowned the best: +15 rep.
